Japanese Knotweed has been a major problem in the area. It was probably washed up the river or possibly down because edge of the infested areas were all around areas that either flood or reached by the tidal bore that comes in under the bridge. Ballyvoile Cove and some areas of the beach east of the Castle were also affected.

Being a weed I haven’t photographed it much. Above is an early picture showing the Japanese Knotweed on the bank of the next property and you can just see it in our garden on the other side of the river to the right and below is the field opposite that has been a 10 year plus project to remove the Japanese Knotweed.

This year 2024 is the first year out of the 21 we have been here that no Japanese Knotweed has come up in the garden. There are still a few clumps of it further up the river bank.

I’ll update this page with info what works to get rid of Japanese Knotweed. Unfortunately glyphosate weed killers are one of the best methods but timing it very important – more later.
